Mustard Mill Museum

Eastport is located at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy where the tides run high and the battle between man and nature is still clearly won by nature. The 19th Century is visible in the old homes and antiquated front street. The pace still allows for the importance of catching up with the news and weather at the post office or a favorite coffee shop.

The mustard mill is a working museum and visitors are always welcome. When the mill schedule allows, tours are given on the hour between 10:00 and 3:00 on weekdays and some Saturdays. The Pantry Store is open all year and features a broad range of regional arts, crafts, and foods. In Eastport the products of our hands keep our culture alive for the next generation.

Mustard is perhaps the world's oldest condiment. All recorded histories note the cultivation and use of the plant for epicurean and medicinal purposes. Napoleon's armies were supplied with mustard to ward off digestive ailments and make their food more palatable. Modern science has shown that the seeds are high in antioxidant properties and in combination with other herbs and spices have antibacterial qualities.

Flavor experienced from mustard comes not only from the condiment itself but also from the heightened awareness of taste as the mustard stimulates the taste buds. In the old fashioned grinding of whole seeds and natural herbs and spices, Raye's Family Mill strives to preserve these qualities.
